Prep for your wedding photographer

Keep the area neat and clean

While most couples choose to get ready in a hotel, some have the ability to get ready in their private residence or even at an on-site suite.

Things can get pretty messy when you've traveled, and are getting ready with multiple people in your wedding party so be sure to keep the space free of clutter. Throw away your garbage as you go, put away suitcases and bags in the closet or under the bed and have the Items you need laid out in one convenient place.

Natural lighting is your friend

When capturing those gorgeous detail photos and getting ready photos, I will always gear towards the windows letting in natural light. I aim to find the windows that will cast natural and even light all over you. To help get the most perfect, evenly lit photos, turn off any artificial lighting. This includes ceiling lights, lamp lights, and any other artificial lighting. While we’re at it, turn the TV off too. No one wants to see The Bachelor playing in the back of your getting ready photos.

After you’ve turned off any artificial lighting (and the TV), open the blinds and curtains.

Understandably, sometimes where you're getting ready is the same place your partner is getting ready. In which case, you don’t want them to see you. If you need to keep the blinds shut for privacy, go for it! When I arrive, I will make sure your partner is not around when I open the blinds and then close them when I am finished. OR I will just take your items to another location to be photographed and then bring them back.

Gather your details

Depending on your timeline and the package you chose, I will begin with detail shots when I arrive.

The most efficient way of getting this all done is to have all the Items you would like photographed in one location. Once I finish with the details, I will put them back where I found them and start on your getting ready photos.

For the ladies, details can include but are not limited to; Rings, vow books, shoes, dress, perfume, earrings, necklace, bracelet, hair pins, bouquet, full Invitation suite

and anything else you want photographed. Some additional items may include; something borrowed, something new, something old, something blue.

For the gentlemen, details can include but are not limited to; your ring, vow book, shoes, socks, suit jacket, tie, tie clip, cufflinks, watch, pocket square, suspenders and cologne.

Some additional items you may include; your favorite bottle of whiskey and your boutonniere.
